In Emergency

The Metropolitan Condominium Association and Signature Property Management desire to provide our residents with the finest safety available. One of the most important aspects of high rise residential living is the early notification of possible emergencies. Two of these notifications are for fire and severe weather, both of which require residents to evacuate their personal units.

In Case of Medical Emergency

If you, a family member or guest need medical attention please dial 911. Be sure to advise the correct address, 600 East 8th and that medical personnel should enter the at the 8th Street entrance. Follow all directions given by the emergency dispatcher, NEVER HANG UP FIRST, let the dispatcher disconnect the phone. If possible call building security next so they are aware of the situation and can have an elevator waiting for arriving emergency crews.

In Case Police Services Required

At times we all have the need to call the police. In Kansas City Missouri the non-emergency number is 816-234-5111, all emergencies please dial 911. If you call for the police please advise building concierge that the police have been called. You do not have to say why you have called but security needs to be ready to assist them on their arrival, getting into the building and up to your unit in a timely manner.

In Case of Fire

There is a battery powered alarm in each bedroom. These are not wired to the front desk and will not alert anyone but the owner. There is a smoke detector, strobe and audio alarm above or close to every entry door. These alarms are very sensitive to smoke and dust, sometimes even steam will set them off. The alarms are “hardwired” to the front desk. If the detector at the entry door senses smoke, an alarm will be sent to the front desk. The alarm panel will beep and the strobe alarms will go off on the lobby and B-1 level. The building fire horn will not go off at this point. The concierge will see or hear the alarm and check the panel for which unit has the alarm. The concierge will call the owner or renter of the unit and ask of there is a problem. If there is no answer, the maintenance technician or the concierge will check the unit for smoke.

If there is smoke, he/she will pull the fire alarm in the hallway located at the stairwells and then call the Fire Department. They will not or should not open the entry door. The concierge or maintenance technician will now announce over the loud speaker located in each unit that there is a fire and to evacuate the building. Only use stairwells for emergency exit. Do not use the elevators. The only time an owner/lease should pull the alarm is if they see smoke or fire. If they smell smoke they should contact the concierge desk.

When exiting through either stairwell you will need to go through the garage and meet at the corner of Cherry Street and Admiral Blvd (AT&T building). A member of management will come to this location and provide residents with all information including when it is safe to return. You will need to be prepared to possibly stand outside for more than a couple of hours. Do not call the concierge desk if the alarm sounds, the attendant will be extremely busy and will not be able to answer phone calls at that time. The concierge will need to prepare for and assist with arriving fire department. Do not go to the lobby, firefighters will be using the area, even on false alarm situations.

In Case of Severe Weather

Building personnel will be monitoring the national weather service. If a severe storm warning is broadcast, Metropolitan residents will be notified by the building’s alarm system using a voice message audible to all floors. If sounded please go to the B1 level to the laundry area.
